Turquoise Necklace

My gut tells me this is a necklace only a mother can love but I'm posting it anyway. What can I say? I love a big, chunky necklace. The more ridiculous, the better. Best part about this necklace is it requires so little work. I bought a string of these turquoise teardrop beads from Brimfield for $10 and essentially just re-strung them and added a clasp. More details after the jump.

Take the beads off the strand they came on and re-string them. I used a grey, thick, waxed string that was strong enough that I could thread without a needle and was strong enough to support these bad boys.

Lay the beads out like so.

When you are at the end tie off as tightly as you can. Press all of the beads close together and use a needle to help get your knot as close as you can to the last bead.

After this it is up to you to make it longer by adding some chain or add your clasps at this point. I added some chain - I skipped taking photos of it because I was very impatient with this project. I wanted the necklace, now, now now - so my cord is grey, my chain is gold and my clasps are silver. Hey, classy lady! It's on my to do list to pick up the right stuff next time I'm at a bead shop, but my hair covers most of it so let's be real - it will probably stay this way. I would just note that this necklace can be heavy so you'll want to make sure you use claps and chains that are up to the challenge. There are details on adding chains and claps on this post.

  1. Well, I love it. I know from experience that it's actually a lot harder than it looks to make beads look good, so v impressed.

It works so nicely with the colour of that shirt as well.

(Hi btw, first time commenter; love the blog!)

    1. That is so sad that you left the most anticipated photo which is the end product with all those gold chain and silver clasps! I would love to see some photos as reference to get some ideas from. I am not very creative, thus I always refer to a few pictures for inspirations before deriving with my end product. Nonetheless, thanks for sharing such a simple craftwork which produced a beautiful result.
