Bookmark-Notebook

This little notebook has 12 pages (6 sheets) but is still thin enough to use as a bookmark. It's a great way to keep your place and keep your thoughts as you read. They're easy to make and has a lovely thread binding (this is also a lesson in a simple single signature book with a sewn saddle-stitch binding - you can take this technique and make all sorts of notebooks).

Lettering and drawing with dip pens

There is so much beautiful calligraphy on the inter-webs these days. Beautiful lettering makes an envelope or a place card infinitely more charming, and in our age of Etsy, it's easy to find an artist who will embellish these items for you. But you can learn how to do it yourself, too.

I love panoramic maps

The Library of Congress is home to some truly amazing collections.  Their American Memory Collection has scores of great images, from antique advertisements to HABS documentation (a work program begun during the Great Depression to put architects back to work and document endangered buildings).  All of these are great resources for decorating, but the panoramic maps collection is my favorite.
